So, who am I?
Saint Berlus is the author of Purple Butterfly, his debut novel. He wrote part of it at UCF in 2017 as an assignment while taking Creative Writing; it was the next semester after earning his Associate of Arts at Valencia Community College. Although fears and limitations were always present, Saint wanted to be a dentist, but his inner passion for writing could not be fully abandoned. Through writing, he feels liberated from the world's chains and pains, and only after might he have experienced the greatness of joy.
After coming to the United States from Haiti, Saint embraced the love of books to ease the transition. Everything was different in a new culture and language, but he knew he had to adapt. Even though learning English was difficult, he was honored with the S.O.A.R award for his excellence during the 2008 school year. Also, that year, the spark of becoming a writer spun in his head. Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss and the Boxcar Children Series were some of his first books he had read. However, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho is his favorite book and his inspiration for writing Purple Butterfly.
High school was challenging, but he stayed focused and learned to overcome social and academic challenges. Saint wanted to be a professional soccer player, too, but just couldn’t pass the physical. And it wasn’t until senior year that he took P.E. Weightlifting and happened to like it. Saint reads constantly and writes poetry on his phone, preferring sonnets. Eventually, he understood that his heart excels in fictional fantasy, where his imaginative psyche awakens the most. Classmates who have read his works complimented his vivid imagery and unique perspective on the world.
Although he has not written anything of great merit, he is vehemently editing the first novel of his upcoming fantasy series, T.O.S.S. And aside from writing, he is a loving father and a man who enjoys no more than two hours at the gym. If he is not watching movies or soccer highlights on YouTube, you might find him at the park next to you, kicking a soccer ball on the weekends.
